These are my 10 favorite photos from 2021. Not necessarily the BEST images of the year, but more my personal feelings on why I love these 10 the most. It’s super hard to pick just 10, but for each photo, I’ll write a little about why I picked it and what I love about it. These photos are in no particular order! They are all labeled with the lens that I use, and all were taken with the Sony a 7III or a7riv.
This photo is one of the morning unicorn sessions we got this year. I say morning because usually, I do them in the evening at this location, but a scheduling issue came up and we had to swap to morning. The morning ended up being prettier than the evening, so I’ll just have to do morning every time from now on! This image is one of my faves because this girl was a hard nut to crack and I worked hard for that smile. I love the light and the depth of this as well. Sigma 85mm 1.4 DG DN Art
This kid is one of my Memorial Princess Sessions this year. I can’t get over her personality, and I totally can’t get over that snaggletooth smile and those freckles. Her eyes are a really unique color too. Not quite green and not quite brown, but I also wouldn’t call them hazel either. I love this looking down angle because it puts her face in focus but lets those shoulders fall off a bit. Sigma 85mm 1.4 DG DN Art
This is actually the girl I nannied for this past year. I got this super fluffy dress in a size that she could fit into and decided to take her out for pictures in the spring. This is the UGA Founder’s garden and it’s one of my favorite locations to go in the spring because of this gorgeous arching Lady Banks rose. The sun coming through this is just magical and I adore her little tippy toes and fluffy butt. The teal and gold color of this dress go perfectly with the light and yellow roses. I don’t do a whole ton of high school senior photos, but I totally LOVE the ones I do end up with because these are the girls who are confident and don’t care if their friends see them dressed up as a fairy. So this photo.. I love fall and I love copper and I love redheads.. so it just had everything. Her mom tossed this skirt while she stood there looking like a goddess. Right after this image, she changed outfits and her second pick was a grungy fleece, metal band tee-shirt, and big chunky black boots. Sigma 85mm 1.4 DG DN Art
As we all know, I love fall and this girl is super special anyway, so of course, it was going to stick in my heart. I love doing overhead photos where I can and this one shows a bunch of the dress. Another Memorial Princess session, she picked this dress immediately and she looked amazing in it!! Sigma 45mm 2.8 Contemporary
I had to film a behind-the-scenes thing for a vendor partnership thing this year with Click Magazine, and I actually had an entire other session planned, shot and filmed but when I got back home I found out that the whole thing had been without sound on my end! The original model wasn’t available again, so I had to go get another kid last minute, shoot and field it all over again because it rained for a week. I love this image not only because it’s gorgeous, but because it represents so much scrambling and work to make it. Sigma 85mm 1.4 DG DN Art
If this isn’t about the most magical thing you’ve ever seen, I don’t know what is. These two girls are cousins that act like sisters. They’re the same age, the same size, and look like fraternal twins. Grandma booked them this unicorn session and they had an amazing morning. I love this image because it’s magical, but watching these girls just flip over the unicorn time was even more special. Watching the word from someone else’s eyes is always fun and these girls one hundred percent believe in real unicorns. Sigma 85mm 1.4 DG DN Art
Oh my, maternity! I haven’t done much in the way of maternity photos before this, but wow do I love how gorgeous pregnant women are! I can’t get over this beautiful mother-to-be! Her tiny self with her tiny baby belly and everything! I love this overhead look as well. Sigma 45mm 2.8 Contemporary
Another Memorial Princess session! This girl made me work my butt off for about 30 seconds of smiles but they were amazing smiles once I got them. The flower bonnet is too small for her (meant for baby babies), but I still think it adds to the whole scene. Sigma 45mm 2.8 Contemporary
Another one that I had to work hard for. So right before this photo, we had to cram the older girl into that dress because I brought a 4/5 when she’s a size 6/7. Whoops. Then the younger sister had a bit of a snit and didn’t want to sit down for photos. Then as I’m shooting I realize that I have about 7% battery in the camera and my spares are all at home. So I had to run how and get them and run back, THEN we had to cut that poor kid out of the dress at the end. It was a day. But I still got this one and I love it all the more because it was hard to get. 85mm 1.4 DG DN Art
