Hi, I’m Heather Larkin, the redhead behind the camera at Heather Larkin Photo. I’m based in Athens, GA, and I specialize in colorful, real-life portraits for families, kids, expecting moms, and high school seniors. I also create those magical Fairyography sessions you may have seen, full of imagination and sparkle.
Even though my goal is always to tell your story through photos, I think it helps if you know a bit about the person you’re trusting with your memories. Connection matters, and I want you to feel comfortable and confident before we ever step in front of the camera.
I’ve been doing photography professionally for over 20 years, but I’ve loved capturing moments and personalities for as long as I can remember. Trends come and go, but what stays the same for me is the focus on genuine connection, honest emotion, and portraits that feel like you. Before I made this my full-time career, I was a preschool teacher for 25 years. That experience shaped everything about how I work, especially with kids. I’m endlessly patient, I know how to meet little ones where they are, and I honestly just enjoy their wild energy and unpredictability. My sessions are easygoing, fun, and low-stress on purpose, because relaxed people make the best photos.

When I’m not photographing families or fairies, I’m often outside chasing bugs with a macro lens. I love getting up early to catch that soft morning light and find tiny details most people miss. I love jumping spiders best. That love of the small and overlooked translates to portraits too. I’m always watching for the subtle expressions, the quick glances, and the real connections.
I’m also proud to be a SIGMA America Ambassador, Imagen Ambassador, Nanlite Ambassador, and Fundy Storyteller. These partnerships give me opportunities to teach, speak, and connect with other photographers across the country. I love helping others improve their craft and share the joy of what we do.

And yes, I live with two very opinionated blind cats. They weigh too much, don’t have a single working eyeball between them, and are full of sass and terrible ideas. They keep things interesting around here.
Being a portrait photographer in Athens, GA is more than a job for me. It’s personal. I care about the people I photograph, and I put that care into every session. If you’re looking for someone who will treat your photo day with heart, patience, and a little bit of humor, I’d love to connect.
