Your Fairyography time with Heather Larkin Photo here in Athens, GA, is all about creating some truly special memories and photos that sparkle. A little bit of planning beforehand helps everything go smoothly so your pictures turn out great. This little note gives you some ideas on what to wear and how to get set for your picture day.
Dressing Up for Your Photos
For many of our Fairyography shoots, our studio has a big collection of lovely dresses, floaty wings, glittery crowns, and fun accessories for lots of different ages and sizes. It’s like a treasure chest! Before your shoot, we’ll chat about what kind of look you’re hoping for and pick out things that fit your ideas.
Thinking of bringing your own things? Our collection is pretty big, but if you have an old family dress, a favorite costume, or something special that fits that wondrous, fairy style, let’s talk about it when we plan! It’s nice to include things that mean a lot to you.
What goes underneath counts! Plain, pale colored undies work well, particularly if you’re in one of our paler or finer dresses. For little ones, a diaper cover that fits well, bloomers, or light shorts under dresses can be good. Undies that fit smoothly are good for older folks.
Hair, Face, and Fingertips!
- Hair: For kiddos, neat, brushed hair that’s not full of knots looks sweet. Easy braids, gentle waves, or just their own lovely hair is great. We want to see their happy faces! If your child has long hair, fix it so it stays out of their eyes. For older kids and grownups, we can talk about how you’d like it. Gentle curls, a nice style that is pinned up, or hair flowing free can all look super.
- Makeup: For the little sprites, no makeup is necessary. They shine all on their own! For older kids, if they want to wear some, just a touch of light, simple makeup that looks right for their age is plenty, just to bring out their own good looks. For grownup shoots, wear makeup that makes you feel good and sure of yourself; a bit more than your everyday look usually shows up well in photos.
- Nails: Neat fingernails and toenails (particularly if feet might be showing) are a plus. Pale or clear polish is a good option, or pick a color that goes with your outfit. Try not to have chipped polish.
Get Your Giggle Gear On!
Getting into the spirit is super important for great pictures! More than any costume piece, coming ready to play and pretend is the biggest thing. As your Athens, GA kid picture person, I work to make a comfy, fun, and playful space where neat things can unfold.
- Pump up the fun (for the little ones)! Before the day, chat with your child about the cool fairy play they’ll get to do. Think of it like a super fun dress up game, not a stuffy “picture appointment.”
- Good sleep & Full Tummies: This is a biggie for any pictures with kids (and grownups, really!). Make sure your child has had enough sleep and a little something to eat and drink before you come. A content, comfy sprite makes for the best pictures.
- Be on Time: Getting here when we planned means we can use all our picture time without hurrying, which helps things feel easy and lets the good ideas come out.
- Let it Happen & Chill Out: When you get here, just breathe and let me lead the way. I want to catch real smiles, curious looks, and those unexpected sparkly bits. Grownups, if you’re feeling calm, your kiddo will feel good too!
Things to Likely Leave at Home:
- Super bright or patterned socks or tights that might show and look odd with the floaty outfits (unless we talked about it for a certain style).
- Tattoos that stick on that you don’t want in the pictures (we can sometimes take them out later, but it’s easier if they’re not there).
- Watches or big jewelry that looks modern that doesn’t quite go with the storybook feel (unless it’s something special we’ve chatted about).
These pointers for Athens families getting ready for pictures are meant to help make things easy and fun. We’re really looking forward to having you for some fun pretending and to make some pictures you’ll love looking back on!
