Getting ready for your Athens family pictures is a fun move toward making memories that stick! But then comes that big question: “What should everyone put on?!” As your Athens, GA family picture taker, I’m here to help you figure it out. We want your family’s clothes for the pictures to help everyone look and feel great, and also help make those lively, colorful family pictures that really show who you are. Good family picture clothing choices are about working together, feeling good, and showing your spirit!

  1. Work Colors Together, Don’t Be All the Same For group pictures that look nice, it’s good to have clothes that go together for picture taking, not everyone in the exact same pants and tops (unless you really want that particular style!). Think about a group of colors that look nice side by side.
    • Pick Two or Three Main Colors: Choose a few main colors that work well with each other. Then add some easy to mix neutrals (like cream, gray, denim, or khaki) to even things out.
    • Ideas for Seasons in Athens, GA:
      • For Spring: Try light, soft colors (like pale pink, light blue, mint green, soft purple) put with creams and light blue jean material.
      • For Summer: Go for brighter, happy shades (like coral, teal, sunny yellow) matched with white or light blue cotton.
      • For Fall: Choose warm, earthy colors (like mustard yellow, rusty orange, olive green, dark red, deep blues) set off by browns and creams. The fall leaves in Georgia look amazing with these!
      • For Winter: Think about deep gem colors (like emerald green, sapphire blue, ruby red) or comfy plain colors with bits of bright holiday color if it fits.
  2. Use Great Colors & Nice Materials! My way of taking family pictures in Athens, GA, is about showing life with lots of brightness! Feel free to pick colors that your family likes and that show your get up and go. More than just color, different feelings of materials add a lovely look and make things more interesting.
    • Materials to Think About: Things like knits (big sweaters when it’s cold), lace, corduroy, jean material, linen, light floaty cloth, or even a bit of velvet can make your outfits look even better.
    • Putting on Layers is Smart: Sweaters that open in front, jean jackets, nice scarves, vests, or a good hat can make outfits more interesting and give you more options during the picture time.
  3. Pick Comfy Clothes That Show Who You Are (Most of all for Kids) If clothes are scratchy, too small, or too fancy, people will feel uncomfortable and wiggly, especially kids. This is super important for easygoing picture day outfits.
    • Room to Play: Pick clothes that let everyone move, sit, and play easily.
    • Show Your Family’s Real Style: Are you an easygoing bunch that likes jeans and t shirts? Or do you like a more timeless, maybe a little more dressed up, look? Let your clothes really show what your family is like. Being yourselves looks best!
  4. Things to Usually Steer Clear Of
    • Really Big Brand Names & Crowded Pictures on Clothes: These can pull attention away from faces and make your pictures look old fast.
    • Clothes with TV Show People (for kids): Unless it’s a special kind of picture day with a theme, it’s good to skip shirts with famous cartoon folks on them.
    • Everybody in the Very Same Color: This can make everyone look like one big blob. Try for colors that go well together, not everyone matching.
    • Super Bright Neon Colors: These can make skin look strange colors in photos and are hard to get right in pictures.
  5. Remember Shoes and Other Little Touches!
    • Shoes and Boots: Make sure shoes are clean and right for where we’ll be (for example, very high heels don’t work well for playing in a park!). Plain boots, nice flat shoes, clean tennis shoes, or even no shoes for some relaxed styles can be great.
    • Other Bits: Plain necklaces or bracelets, belts, hats, or scarves can finish an outfit, but try not to pick anything that takes too much attention.

One Last Good Idea: When you have some outfits picked, put them all on a bed together. Do they look like they belong in the same picture? Do the colors and any patterns go nicely together? Doing this easy thing can help you figure things out! And don’t forget, I’m always ready to give you some personal help when we talk before your picture day, so your clothes for your Georgia season pictures will be just right.
